Rockfaced Sandstone Blocks Sydney
The rockfaced block is Sydney sandstone at its most recognisable — the pillowed, chiselled face you see on Federation homes, church walls and harbour-side fences across the city. Ours are made at the Glenorie quarry the traditional way: a projecting rock face dressed on a precisely dimensioned block, so heritage character comes with modern coursing accuracy.

Dimensions Made for Building
The standard rockfaced block has a 110mm bedwidth — deliberately the width of a standard brick, so it courses with brickwork and sits on standard footings. Heights run 100, 150, 200 and 250mm, plus a 300mm-high block at 130mm bedwidth for bolder coursing. Need thicker? Blocks are made on site, so custom bedwidths are cut to order.
Mixed course heights laid ashlar-style give the authentic colonial look; single-height coursing reads more formal. Either way, the projecting rock face casts the deep shadow lines that make sandstone walls glow in afternoon light.
Where Rockfaced Blocks Shine
Fences and boundary walls are the classic application — often finished with the quarry’s pyramid caps and matching pier caps cut by our stonemasons. As a house veneer they transform a façade; as retaining they give formal gardens their bones; and at smaller scale they make superb letterbox structures, plinths, and garden edging with real presence.
