Buy Direct From the Source
Sandstone Quarry Sydney
This is the only place in Sydney where you can go direct to a sandstone quarry, select your stone, and have it cut to your size. The quarry at Glenorie in Sydney’s Hills District has operated since before 1980, quarrying and processing on the one site — which is why the product range is one of the largest in Sydney and the buying experience is unlike any stone yard.
One trip to the quarry is a worthwhile experience: every product — flagging, slabs, boulders, paving, blocks, spalls, crushed and rumbled stone, stonemasonry — is on display, in every colour the ground gives up.
What Happens at the Quarry
Stone is extracted on site, then processed metres away: primary saws cut billets into slabs and blocks, hydrasplitters split faces, the flagging cutter hand-splits traditional paving, and the stonemasons dress caps, treads and custom pieces. Buying direct means your order can enter that stream — custom thicknesses, non-standard heights and cutting lists are everyday work, not special orders.
It also means you can see everything before it ships: walk the rough squared block bins and hand-select by the tonne, compare mixed-colour pallets in daylight, and put your stone next to a sample of what you’re matching.
Visiting and Ordering
The quarry is at Glenorie NSW 2157 — under an hour from most of Sydney via Old Northern Road. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 7:00am–3:30pm and Saturday 8:00am–midday (closed Sundays and public holiday weekends). Bring project measurements or plans; the team will convert them into pallets, tonnes and a delivery quote on the spot. Can’t visit? Email photos of stone you’re matching and we’ll send back photos of current colour batches.
Why Sydney Builds With Sydney Stone
Sydney sits on Hawkesbury sandstone — the city’s heritage buildings, sea walls and kerbs are cut from it. Stone from a Sydney quarry matches that legacy in colour and weathering behaviour, which is why heritage architects specify local stone and why a Glenorie block looks at home against any wall in the city. Freshly quarried local stone also arrives unweathered, saws cleanly, and carries no shipping-scale carbon or lead time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the public buy directly from the sandstone quarry?
Yes — homeowners, landscapers and builders all buy direct. Visit Glenorie during opening hours to see the range, hand-select stone and order cutting to your sizes; no trade account needed.
Where is the sandstone quarry in Sydney?
At Glenorie NSW 2157 in Sydney’s Hills District — under an hour from most of Sydney. Open Monday–Friday 7:00am–3:30pm and Saturday mornings 8:00am–midday.
What type of sandstone comes from the quarry?
Sydney (Hawkesbury) sandstone in the full local palette — whites, greys, yellows, browns, oranges and purples — the same stone family as Sydney’s heritage buildings. All 100% Australian, quarried and processed on site.
Can the quarry cut stone to my sizes?
Yes — that’s the core advantage of buying at the source. Pavers, slabs, blocks and masonry pieces are sawn to your cutting list on site, including custom thicknesses and bedwidths.
Can I pick up stone from the quarry myself?
Yes, collection is welcome — utes and trailers handle smaller lots, and the loaders will place palletised or loose stone on your vehicle. Larger orders are delivered by crane truck or tipper across Sydney.
