Why Brick-Width Matters
A 110mm bedwidth means sandstone bricks sit on the same footings, use the same wall ties and course with the same setout as clay brickwork. Bricklayers can lay them with familiar techniques; you can transition from brick to stone mid-wall; and mixed brick-and-stone designs — a sandstone plinth under brick, stone quoins on a brick façade — line up without packing or cutting.
The 100mm-high block courses close to a standard brick with its joint; 150, 200, 250 and 300mm heights let you scale up the coursing for a more monumental look while keeping the brick-compatible bed.
Two Faces: Rockfaced and Hydrasplit
Choose the rockfaced finish for the traditional dressed face seen across heritage Sydney — it reads unmistakably as hand-worked stone. Choose hydrasplit for a cleaner split-only face that suits modern architecture while keeping natural texture. Both come off the same quarry in the full colour range, from marbled whites through yellows to browns and purples, so matching existing stonework is usually possible from photos.
Sandstone Bricks vs Clay Bricks
Clay bricks are cheaper per unit; sandstone bricks are a statement. Stone gives you colour that runs through the full body (chips never show a different core), a face that improves with weathering, and the kind of street presence that lifts a property’s value. Many Sydney projects use both — clay brick structure with sandstone feature courses, plinths and caps — and the shared 110mm module is what makes that painless.
