Reface, Don’t Rebuild

Sandstone Brick Cladding Sydney

You don’t need to rebuild a wall to give it the sandstone look — you clad it. Thin stone facing turns existing brick, blockwork, concrete and rendered walls into natural sandstone at a fraction of full-block cost. Our cladding stock is quarried at Glenorie: thin handsplit flagging at just 30–50mm bedwidth for the traditional riven face, plus split, rockfaced and sawn cladding finishes from $140/m².

Thin Handsplit: The Cladding Workhorse

Thin handsplit flagging exists precisely for this job. At 30–50mm thick it adds minimal weight and projection, so it fixes to sound existing walls without new footings in most cases — ideal for refacing a tired besser-block fence, dressing a garage wall, or wrapping a rendered planter in real stone. The hand-split face carries the same traditional character as full heritage flagging.

Where a more formal face is wanted, cladding is also available in split-face, rockfaced and sawn finishes to match our block range — so a clad wall can sit beside solid block walling and read as one build.

Fixing and Substrates

Cladding fixes with a polymer-modified stone adhesive onto clean, sound masonry or concrete; larger or thicker pieces get mechanical anchors as well. Movement joints follow the substrate’s joints, and a penetrating sealer finishes the job. Fireplaces and chimney breasts, front fences, blade walls, and internal feature walls are the classic applications — anywhere demolition would be madness but the surface lets the property down.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is sandstone cladding?

Thin natural sandstone (roughly 20–50mm) fixed to an existing wall to give the appearance of solid stone. Our thin handsplit flagging at 30–50mm is the traditional option; split, rockfaced and sawn finishes are also stocked.

Can I clad an existing brick fence with sandstone?

Yes — that’s the most common job. If the fence is sound, thin cladding fixes directly with stone adhesive (plus mechanical anchors for larger pieces) without new footings. The wall gains only 30–50mm of thickness.

How much does sandstone cladding cost in Sydney?

Wall cladding starts around $140/m² ex-quarry; thin handsplit flagging is quoted per job. That’s well under the cost of rebuilding in solid stone — and installation is faster too.

Is sandstone cladding suitable indoors?

Absolutely — internal feature walls, fireplaces and entry halls are popular uses. The thin bedwidth keeps weight manageable and the stone brings texture no paint or tile can.
