Large Format & Cut to Size

Sandstone Paving Slabs Sydney

Large-format stone makes small spaces feel bigger and grand spaces feel considered. Our sandstone paving slabs are diamond-sawn at the quarry to whatever dimensions your design calls for — from classic 400x400mm squares through 600x600mm formats to oversized feature slabs and stepping stones — because when you cut the stone where you quarry it, "custom" is just another day’s work.

Cut to Your Exact Size

Sawn all round slabs are cut on all six faces for crisp arrises and consistent thickness, which means you can lay them with tight joints or open, turf-jointed patterns. Popular sizes include 400x400, 600x300, 600x400 and 600x600mm at 50mm thick, but the saws will cut whatever your plan specifies — long plank formats, oversized entry slabs, or thick monoliths for steps.

For vehicle-rated slabs, we cut at 75mm and 100mm. And if your design mixes slabs with strip paving, hydrasplit stone can be split to matching widths from the same colour stock.

Stepping Stones & Turf Joints

Large slabs laid as stepping stones through lawn or gravel are one of the most cost-effective high-end looks in landscaping — fewer stones, big impact. A 600x400mm slab at 50mm sits stable in turf, while thicker 75mm slabs suit gravel gardens and informal paths. Order slabs pre-cut to one size for a rhythmic layout, or mixed sizes for a more organic sequence.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes do sandstone paving slabs come in?

Standard formats run 400x400mm up to 600x600mm at 50mm thick, but every slab is sawn to order at the quarry, so any dimension your design needs is available — including plank formats and oversized feature slabs.

How thick should sandstone slabs be?

50mm for pedestrian paving on a mortar bed, 75–100mm for vehicle areas or slabs laid on sand/turf where support is less even. Thin 20–30mm tiles suit paving over an existing concrete slab.

How much do large sandstone slabs cost in Sydney?

Sawn all round slabs start at about $120/m² ex-quarry in standard sizes at 50mm. Custom sizes and thicknesses are quoted per job — send through your dimensions for a free quote.

Can I lay sandstone slabs on grass?

Yes — as stepping stones. Cut the turf, bed each slab on 20–30mm of compacted crusher dust or sand, and set the surface flush with the lawn for easy mowing. Use 50mm+ thick slabs so they don’t rock.
