Around a Sydney pool, sandstone is hard to beat: it is naturally slip-resistant when wet, stays cool underfoot through a 35-degree January afternoon, and its warm colours make pool water look bluer. We supply the complete pool paving package direct from the quarry — field pavers, coping, bullnose step treads and matching edging — cut to size on site.
Choose precision sawn all round pavers for a resort-style deck, crazy paving for a relaxed natural surround, or hydrasplit strips for contemporary coping — all in the same quarry-run stone so everything matches.
Why Sandstone Around Pools?
Porcelain and concrete pavers can become skating rinks when wet and hotplates in summer. Sandstone’s granular surface gives genuine wet-foot grip in sawn, split and sandblasted finishes, and its thermal properties keep the surface comfortable for bare feet. It also handles salt and chlorinated splash zones well when sealed with a penetrating sealer.
Being a natural stone, it never fades to grey the way coloured concrete does — the colour runs all the way through every paver.
Coping, Treads and Edges Cut to Size
Because the stone is processed at the quarry, pool coping is cut to your exact specification — square-edge, bullnosed or rockfaced, in widths to suit your bond beam. Hydrasplit paving split to 150mm widths makes crisp modern coping and capping, while the stonemasons can produce bullnosed stair treads for pool steps and spa surrounds.
For the deck itself, sawn all round pavers are cut to your pattern (400x400, 600x400, 600x600mm or custom), or lay sawn flagging for the classic Sydney crazy-paved pool surround from $85/m².
Sealing & Care
Seal sandstone pool paving with a penetrating (impregnating) sealer after installation and re-apply every two to three years. Day-to-day care is a hose-down and an occasional pH-neutral wash — avoid acid cleaning. With basic care, a sandstone pool surround outlasts the pool equipment many times over.

Is sandstone slippery around a pool?
No — natural sandstone is one of the most slip-resistant paving choices for wet areas. Sawn, split-face and sandblasted finishes all provide genuine wet-foot grip, which is why sandstone has been Sydney’s pool paving of choice for decades.
Does sandstone get hot around pools?
Sandstone stays significantly cooler underfoot than concrete, porcelain and dark stone. Lighter quarry colours such as marbled white and light yellow reflect the most heat and are the most comfortable in full summer sun.
Do I need to seal sandstone pool pavers?
Yes — apply a penetrating sealer after installation to resist salt, chlorine and staining, and re-seal every 2–3 years. Penetrating sealers keep the natural look and slip resistance, unlike glossy topical coatings.
Can you supply matching pool coping?
Yes. Coping is cut to size at the quarry from the same stone as your field pavers — square edge, bullnose or rockfaced profiles — so the whole pool area matches. Bullnosed step treads are also made to order.
Is sandstone OK for saltwater pools?
Yes, sealed sandstone performs well around saltwater pools. Use a quality penetrating sealer, rinse splash zones occasionally, and re-seal on schedule to prevent salt crystallisation in the stone surface.
